Hamilton Hall, Liverpool Street
FancyaPint?'s review...
This pub seems to have it all in one package: a dazzlingly ornate interior which was originally a part of the old Great Eastern Hotel (some say it was a banqueting hall, some say a ballroom, it all depends who you ask); and being Wetherspoon, it has a large range of decent, well-priced beer (especially for the City) and cheap pub grub. Unfortunately, nothing is ever quite as it seems. During the week, it does get very busy with braying City commuters and slightly lost tourists making it difficult to get a drink, much less a drink in peace. It does quieten down later in the evening, however and we have to give the staff credit - they do a pretty good job and make best of the circumstances. Weekends make it one to avoid however; once you've found the weekend crowds and thrown in a soupcon of pissed footy supporters - you'll have a pretty close approximation of some people's idea of hell.
