An unpretentious, no-nonsense drinkers pub, the Harringay Arms is not a big place and to be honest it's scruffy, but this all adds to its charm. It has the trappings of a seventies country pub - Toby jugs, ornamental plates, and some 'interesting' wood panelling - but on closer inspection it might well be an Irish pub, as the walls were also adorned with pictures of Irish writers, thinkers and poets. It has, however, pandered to the 21st Century by including a television and a simple, small but effective beer yard. There's a trio of ales on, but we've had considerably better kept than that. We also noticed the entrance to the Ladies is ridiculously narrow, which makes for good cabaret watching women trying to negotiate the doorway. Encouragingly, it seems to attract a wide variety of people. Once a place clearly reserved for Crouch End's old men, it now (seemingly happily) shares its space with plenty of young locals, perhaps after somewhere with a bit of character. It's all the better for it, too.

Great boozer. Been given a new energy since the Aussies cometh and, unlike their noble countryman Barry McKenzie, have a taste for good proper beer offering a selection of well cared for ales including Doom Bar, X6 and Otter. The decor has been spruced up with framed movie posters and classic album covers.

The local crowd are generally a friendly bunch. It feels like a proper pub, the sort that you see in an episode of Minder and has a big advantage over a lot of the increasingly sanitised boozers in town.

The Aussies have arrived and "The Haringay" is all the better for it. Suddenly there is music when you walk in, a big smile from behind the jump and a vibrant mix of people of all ages. Ben, Anthony and Troy have woken up this little boozer and without actually changing much they have created a great place to be. That must be an art in itself! A real gem of a pub and without a doubt the best "proper" pub for miles.

On relfection, I think my previous review was slightly childish. Thank you to the management for their response. I appreciate you are running a new business and I do not wish to cause you problems early on by being a dick on the internet! I will then, review it slightly differently: The Harringay arms is now under new management. The previous incarnation of this place was my favourite boozer in London. It has now been spruced up and a juke box added, which has changed the atmosphere slightly. No longer can you sit and read a book in complete silence and a saturday night, but I doubt it was much of a money maker like that. In short, this place is no longer my favourite, but I am sure many crouch enders will love it and I will doubtless return anyway

Under new management. Now run by friendly, enthusiastic, young Australians. The old guard clique(s) have gone on their trikes. Their natural habitat has been disturbed. D.G.
It no longer has it's repressed vibe. A very mixed clientele. Still retaining the ethos of a traditional PH, probably the only one in
Crouch End and around. Check it out.

I recently returned to Crouch End after three years and was amazed by Haringay Arms. There were two really friendly young guys running the bar and the beer has improved.

Overview

New owners. Brothers Ben and Anthony and life long friend Troy fell in love with this old boozer when they first laid their eyes on it. One of the last old boozers, they have embraced that and then added live music, a vintage record player for Monday Night BYO L.P night - or choose LP's which are lined around the walls and play them.

 

Tuesday night hosts the really hard trivia night. And the weekend sees a packed house of music lovers as the Juke Box (Probably the best in London with every single song hand picked by the owners and locals. From Billie Holiday to Nat King Cole to The Kinks and Burlesque numbers. Loaded with old school blues) fills this old boozer with a load of merriment.

 

A large selection of top shelf whiskey and other spirits (JB to Johnny Walker Blue label and a lot in between), £4 Bloody Mary Sunday's accompanied by Live Blues/Folk and accoustic sets.

The walls are lined with vintage posters and music memorabillia as well as a healthy array of vintage figurines and LP's.

If you love music, good booze and a great time then come on down. It's well worth it now that some life has been punched into the place.

Don't forget the top notch stone baked pizzas for £6.50 every night. And if you fancy an excellent coffee, The Ramblin Rose Coffee Shop which is attached to the pub is a retro delight serving NUDE espresso and Steenburg teas. Relax to the sounds of the vintage record player in the cafe, or grab a bottle of wine to share with your pizza.
