The Hollybush is a McMullen's owned high street bar. You can see from the exterior this was once a nice little pub, but one which now hopes to attract the younger Loughton residents. Consequently the decor has been suitably modernised - clinical, minimalist and rather boring - colours sweep across the spectrum from beige to white, with a bit of black thrown in; it's the usual bland McMullen's interpretation of what they think passes for sophisticated in the outer suburbs. Still, its not that bad here - you can enjoy a McMullen's ale here with relative ease. We've yet to see it on a Friday or Saturday night, where coupled with slightly extended hours we suspect the ambience could go either way, even if the more annoying locals probably gather at the nearby late night 'Minx bar' instead. There are enough good pubs nearby to rank this your third or forth choice in Loughton, unless you're purposely seeking a younger crowd.
