A distinctive presence on the Holloway Road, the Lord Nelson was a key spot for many a touring Irish band. All change now. Where once you had the Wolf Tones playing you're now more likely to have Ashley Beedle DJ'ing. So, still a party pub but one chasing a very different demographic. Early days yet, but signs are that this one - from the same stable as the Horse and Groom in Shoreditch - is already on the radar of the Bright Young Things, and we fully expect the sizeable dancefloor to fill on the numerous club nights (especially given the massive speakers). As you'd imagine, it's a slightly different beast during the day and even with a free jukebox and massive leather sofas to sprawl in, it's a rather bare affair. Still, come the night time (and the night life) not too many will be complaining over the décor. Only a 2 pinter for us at the moment (none of the three beer pumps working on our visit), but we're aim to sample it a later date as soon as we can.

Our band played here in spring '10. We were pretty apprehensive given how rough the establishments that pre-date the Horatia were, but it was actually a quality evening (and well managed by the staff too). Not somewhere you'd travel to for the beer or the setting, but if there's something on then its a fine place to be.
