Stuck at the quiet end of Curtain road, the Horse and Groom is a good pub which was refurbished some time ago in a fairly traditional style. 'Traditional' in this context means fairly upmarket but understated; the overall effect is quite elegant and rather different to the more northerly Hoxtonite destinations or city boy bars further south. However, its location - sitting right on the edge of these two very different areas - is probably one reason why its easier to get a seat here and the atmosphere is more relaxed than other nearby places. If this wasn't enough to recommend it, there's a couple of ales on the hand pumps, good £5 lunches (presumably aimed at local office workers) and great service, too. Maybe unremarkable in an area like Marylebone, when located in EC2, right next to its distinctly average neighbour, it becomes worth seeking out.
