Kilkenny Tavern, Merton
FancyaPint?'s review...
It's an authentic Irish pub alright - from outside it looks and clearly sounds Irish, there is an array of Guinness pumps sitting proudly on the bar, and plenty of Emerald Isle nic-nacs and racing prints adorning the walls. Just pity anyone trying to get from Ballydehob to Skibbereen, as there's surely not a sign left there. But this pub has a twist, with Laurel & Hardy memorabilia and regular showings of old B&W films. The pub itself is large and open, forming three uncluttered spaces and lots of seating. The service was fine (if idiosyncratic) when we were in, and the Guinness good, so we'll be back to see if the craic flows on an evening visit, or there's another random classic playing on the outsized box in the corner.
