King Edward VII, Stratford
FancyaPint?'s review...
The King Edward VII - or King Eddie's as they like to call themselves - has the proud honour of being the best pub in Stratford. Compared to the post-war shopping centre over the road, the pub's Victorian exterior positively stands out, with low doors and bay windows. Indeed, as you step down into the pub, you're greeted with a warm, dark and traditional pub, boasting a host of features dating from its last refurbishment in 1914; check out the cosy fireplaces and the tiled hallway which links the public and saloon bars. Initially it can seem rather small, but the labyrinthine nature of the layout means you'll soon discover two further bars, plus a decent back garden. Despite the size, our recent midweek visit found it busy enough that it was hard to find a seat; we can imagine it picking up even more for the Thursday live music night, or the Sunday quiz. The drink doesn't disappoint either: there were four well kept ales on tap, complimented by a good range of bottled beers and a decent wine list. Meanwhile, if you're hungry, food is served all day - but it's not the cheapest around and our last meal was rather disappointing. Nonetheless, if you're after a traditional pub which offers a genial and friendly atmosphere, then look no further than King Eddies.

How to find the King Edward VII pub
On leaving the tube, it's probably easiest to cut through the Stratford Centre across the road. Go straight through and you should come out by McDonald's. Cross the Broadway and turn left - its 50 metres up on the right.
