Well, the outside's been smartened up and it looks pretty good - the interior's the same old Harold. This large, lively, friendly local shows how it should be done. OK, the beer won't have CAMRA members creaming their jeans, although the only ale appears to be London Pride (although the pump clips were turned around on this visit), but there's enough of a range to keep all but the most fussy drinkers happy and the service is friendly, prompt and attentive. The locals are more than fine with outsiders being in their pub - possibly down to its nearness to Leyton Orient's ground - and there're loads of activities to keep people happy (even a large beer garden in case we get something resembling a summer). Any time of day it seems to have a buzzing clientele. Long may it last, cheers!

This pub is a terrible shame. It's a fantastic size with a great garden, but they seem as if they don't want business. There's never more than about 4 locals in there and considering the size of the place and the location, it's ridiculous.

My wife and I moved to Leyton 2 years ago and tried our best to make this our local, until we discovered the fantastic Birkbeck tavern and a little further away, the Red Lion in Leytonstone.

It would be quite simple to turn this pub around, but it seems almost as if they don't care.

1 - Remove the net curtains. You're the closest pub to Leyton Tube station, on a busy street. Make it feel welcoming - learn from the Red Lion.
2 - Serve a better range of beers - successful pubs don't just serve Stella and Guiness anymore.
3 - A lick of paint wouldn't go amiss.

It's a real shame, as the building is fantastic. The atmosphere is like a ghost town, with a similar number of people.

was a shame to see the pub in the state it was in on our last visit, myself and my husband have been going to the king harold for nearly 12 yrs on and off, we moved away a couple of years ago and was back for a visit recently, thought it would be good to watch the rugby at the harold as its always been good for showing all sports, phoned in advance to make sure they was showing the game, was told yes, thought great stuff we always have a great night in there with the regulars and the odd bods that occasionally pop in. however... when we arrived,i wasnt sure it was open, there was 3 customers,1 tv on showing some programme or other, odd curtains up at the windows, unlike the usual decor, patchy walls, juke box was off, this was a saturday afternoon!! asked the young barmaid if they would turn the rugby on,she wasnt sure if she was allowed, asked the landlady and was told NO were showing the liverpool match, bear in mind unless they was expecting a bus load of scousers withing the next 15 mins, there was no1 to watch that game...we felt like a pair of lemons annoyed ones at that, because kick off was approaching and we had to find another pub,we orderd 2 pints, drank them as quick as we could, went to the loo,no locks on the door, wich says to me that its become a trouble pub, such a shame that it look and feels derilict of any charcter...overall not happy, this was once a very busy, friendly, all nations pub, local or not u was welcome, our verdict...move on to the next pub
