King's Head, Balham
FancyaPint?'s review...
A massive Victorian gin palace that hasn't lost too many of its original features, including some lovely tiling in one of the bars - thankfully they've toned down the exterior, giving it a nice sense of gravitas and traditional pubishness. There's still enough etched glass and closed off nooks to admire - the place exudes a sense of calm, although with Sky 3D on the tellies, we guess it gets rowdier when the sport is on the big screens. Added attractions are well made pub grub and a decent garden out the front. With friendly staff and decent beer on the the four taps to round out the experience, it has to be one of the best pubs in the area.

Great pub, slightly out of place on the tatty Upper Tooting Road. Food is excellent and fresh, service good and there's a relatively quiet outside area too. Recommended and considering it's only 200m up the road from the dire Wheatsheaf, the extra walk is well worth it!
