King's Stores, Liverpool Street
FancyaPint?'s review...
This is one of those places that's a victim of its proximity to Liverpool Street station. It gets busy lunchtimes and early evenings and then, all of a sudden, it's empty. It's a decent enough pub, though maybe a bit bland and soulless, and there really isn't any need for such harsh lighting. It serves everything you'd expect of an average City pub and does it reasonably well, but on its own doesn't add up to a great night out.

This must have changed since the last review in 2009. The place was very much two halves when I was there on Saturday night: a fairly busy, raucaus bar on one side and a pleasantly more peaceful, though still busy, gastro pub on the other. Upstairs was a dining room with a more ambitious menu, though given over to a private party as it was the weekend. I'm keen to see how this one works in the week but very good for this part of town on a Saturday.

How to find the King's Stores pub
Leave Liverpool Street Station by the Bishopsgate exit, cross Bishopsgate, turn left then immediately turn right down Middlesex Street at the traffic lights. Go straight down and then straight down the alleyway and you'll see the pub just in front of you on the corner on the right.
