Loose Cannon, Cannon Street
FancyaPint?'s review...
As much of a corporate venue/sports bar as a pub, we discovered the Loose Cannon one recent Friday evening after work. And a welcome discovery it was too - for one thing, you can normally get a seat. Secondly, service is very swift. The beer is as predictable as in much of the City these days - London Pride was the only ale on tap on our visit - but, in the words of Meat Loaf, two out of three ain't bad in a part of the City (the concrete monstrosity that is Lower/ Upper Thames Street) which is not exactly blessed with great pubs. A curious feature is the entrance, which has a table and a settee, and where we positioned ourselves to take note of the clientele coming and going. It's a Grade II listed venue, in the style of a wharf-side property. Interestingly, they have "chess lunchtimes" from 11.00 - 15.00 Tuesday - Friday, when you can play for free if eating. Whilst not a traditional pub, this place is something a bit different in an area which sorely needs it. Be warned though, it is often hired out in the evenings.

I wanted to find a pub in the City without the queues and admittedly was put off by the look of the outside. Once inside however you are in a large brick exposed tunnel which looks like it was once some sort of engine storage facility....but still manages to feel cozy somehow! The bar is on one side and their is another even larger space (would be a great club) on the other. I was served quickly with, a smile (rare in these parts), and found a table (even rarer) so i'll definately be back.

I really liked this bar, stumbled across it recently. Great staff, and a curious and quirky interior under rather grand looking arches. My mates enjoyed the peroni, i went for the doombar ale. Our lunch was tasty, had a steak baguette and curly fries, and the staff served us quickly and friendly at our table. definately recommend it.
