Maddens, East Finchley
FancyaPint?'s review...
East Finchley is a bit of a mixed bag, pub wise, but as more 'traditional' pubs go, Maddens is one of the better choices. An Irish pub shop conversion, it's not only for the preserve of Irish locals - every visit seems to find the place filled with a good atmosphere and a mixed crowd. Inside the decoration is interesting, with the front section being a traditional-looking bar and the back being a newer loungey area, with candles and couches. When you add a good choice of ales (four at the last count) and some live music into the mix, we can only recommend it.

A horrible experience. There was a chewing gum stuck to the seat of my chair (unfortunately, i didn't see it because the ligth was a bit murky). As a result, I ended up with sticky chewing gum all over a perfectly good new pair of trousers. The barmaid was going to offer to help sort it out , but the manager told her not to. He and his partner made it abundantly clear that they didn't think this was their problem and that they couldn't care less about the fact that the state of their pub ruined a good evening out. I won't be going back.
