Malt & Hops, along with the Elephant's Head, is the closest thing to a proper pub around these parts. It even looks like a pub, having once been a coaching inn, rather than popping up as a shop conversion. There's a pool table, big screen sports and lager aplenty, which makes this pub a rather blokey proposition. That said, a beer garden (complete with boules, if you ask nicely) can provide respite if the football is on. There are a couple of reasonably kept ales, a pool table and a generally good-natured atmosphere. Even though, in the overall scheme of things, it's somewhat unexceptional, the lack of good alternatives means this is one of the best pubs in the area.

As the other reviews point out, there isn't much local competition near this pub, so it doesn't have to try too hard, and it's pretty average. nice garden area if you don't mind passive smoking.

The only surprise was the price: a pint of stella in May 2010 is FOUR POUNDS. yes you read that correctly.
