Not too long ago, the Malt House was noted for two things: Chelsea fans and karaoke nights. A name change, a refit, and neither appear to be part of this pub's apparel any more. It's not as if the Malt House has gone that upmarket, but it just goes to show how much a pub's atmosphere can change once it cancels its Sky subscription. Oddly, the smartening up of the pub has also brought about the addition of famous quotations concerning drinking: something we thought had gone out of fashion in pub design about five years ago. Nevertheless, both food and drink are straightforward and the layout - with a fine covered space out the back - and the music played added to the experience. All good stuff and any place that mixes up a cocktail called a Des Lynam surely has its heart in the right place.
