Maze Inn, Cockfosters
FancyaPint?'s review...
Blimey. If nothing else you'd be hard pushed not to be impressed by the appearance of 'Maze Inn' (a-maze-inn - geddit?). Until recently called Merryhills and known to attract chavvy elements, the over 25s policy put pay to that and its new incarnation aims for a rather different demographic. From the landscaped gardens outside, to the chandeliers and swirly mirrored murals inside, it's an explosion of expensive looking, thought-out, hard work. If truth be told, however, it's a bit tacky - a kind of glinting, visual tsunami which would easily impress North London footballers wives types (and probably magpies if they could get past the door staff); indeed, if we were in any doubt, they have a 'Ladies Who Lunch' promotion and a "fashionable" dress code (so put away that tweed). No ales, alas, but instead a large restaurant where booking is advisable and food priced into the low to mid teens range. The best way to perceive this place is as a little bit of the West End in Oakwood. If that's your thing, you'll like it here.
