Montague Arms, Nunhead
FancyaPint?'s review...
The Montague Arms is one of the more idiosyncratic boozers in London. Popular with Goldsmiths students, it also has a loyal following from a wide range of locals. Rather intimidating from the outside, cast all doubts to one side and embrace the crazy, ramshackle interior. Service is good and expect a warm welcome from the long-standing Landlord as they serve up a decent choice of real ale. Live music is the mainstay here though, so expect frequent weird and wonderful entertainment. Our last visit sadly coincided with a cold snap in the weather and unfortunately it was as cold inside the pub as out. You shouldn't be able to see your own breath indoors, so consequently we glugged our drinks and made haste to somewhere warmer. nonetheless, a great boozer which was recently decreed in a recent book as being the best proper pub in the UK.
