The Museum Tavern is a fine pub located across the road from the British Museum - we guess the clue was in the name. Happily, it has managed to maintain its high standards over the years and despite having a regular tourist clientele - something that doesn't always work to the benefit of a pub - it still manages to be a decent place. The decor is traditional, with plenty of etched glass and dark wood, while sitting outside in the sun is quite lovely. There's an unusually decent choice of ale on the pumps - with seven pumps to choose from, you're bound to find something you like. And despite recent rumours to the contrary, the overall standard of service is excellent and the friendly staff cope well with the busy crowds who descend during the day for a spot of lunch. A fair few after-workers also come here, so if you want it quieter, give it a go later in the evening. As you might expect it's a very handy place to meet before a visit to the British Museum, or perhaps afterwards to contemplate the Mummy of Hornedjitef with a pint.

It's a nice place with many varieties of beers. It is advisable to go at night where there is a better atmosphere without the crowds of tourists.

Location is the only thing going for this place - if it was anywhere else it would have closed down by now. Staff are clearly overworked and suffering from low morale, hence their surly and aggressive attitude to any punter daring to buy a drink. Don't bother going if you like your drinking establishments to have a good atmosphere. Alternatively, if being scowled at all night is your thing, better head on down there...
