Set in a charming area filled with early Victorian cottages and narrow streets, The North Star and its surroundings look as if they've not changed for a century - surprisingly, it feels like a small village in the country, it's that quiet. What is perhaps even more surprising is this charming and tranquil area is only a stone's throw from the massive Green Man roundabout and all the associated unpleasantness of dual carriageways, traffic and drive-thru McDonald's. Pretty from the outside, inside it's a decent enough local and we were pleased to discover it's had an upgrade on the beer front: there are now six pumps offering a regularly changing selection of well kept ales. Also a pleasure was the friendly service - not just dedicated to the band of clearly loyal regulars, but offered to everyone equally, making us feel welcome. A good mixture of locals makes it a pleasant place to go and with the excellent beer, this is one we'll be going back to.

A real gem of a pub! Local, friendly atmosphere with amiable bar staff and landlord. They´ve recently started doing food and it´s truly delicious!! There are your pub basics like burgers but also some stand out dishes like crab burger and an amazing spanish platter that includes garlic and chilli prawns chorizo. Also great range of roasts that are much better than your average pub with little extras like roast pear with the pork and pearl barley stuffing with the chicken my husnand ate.Was too full to try the desserts - but they looked good too. Next time!

Excellent pub that a reviewer on another site referred to as being in Narnia. It's in a road that time has almost forgotten. Excellent, friendly pub. Friendly landlord and staff, great beers (6 handpumps with some guests and some regulars), great jukebox, friendly atmosphere. Recently refurbished making it more open and brighter and now has a young chef of obvious quality and enthusiasm. Small but creative menu. Excellent food, reasonably priced. An absolute diamond of a pub, guv'nor.

This is a fine pub. There are a number of 3 pinty pubs in the area varying in quality and this (and the Willian IV) are a cut above the rest. Friendly, good beer and good music most of the time.
