Practically every railway station in Britain has a pub nearby and many of the clientele will be lost souls and weary travellers with a tale to tell - budding Martin Amis's might at least find something of interest inside. My advice, however, is to avoid the ones that are actually on railway premises - and this place is the pits. Full of alcoholic commuters who don't want to go home to the wife. Poor beer and no toilets (I know there is a French style Portaloo on Platform 13 but paying 20p to go in there is strictly for near fatal cases of gastric flu). Actually makes an oasis of the All Bar One outside the station. If Trevor Howard and Celia Johnson's assignation had taken place in here they'd have taken one look at each other, one quick look around, and gone straight to a hotel - no messing.
