This popular pub a short way from Chingford Mount certainly does itself proud in terms of size. There's two pool tables, local fundraising events for charity, cheap burgers and friendly service. It's a shame it doesn't hold together fantastically as a whole. Pubs in the 'James H Porter' go for a rather unconvincing old-worlde look but somewhat miss the mark, feeling old-fashioned, but not in a good way. Still, the locals who come here seem perfectly happy, so who are we to complain?

Back to its best! This pub at last has a manager who knows how to run a pub. In the short time he has been here he has completely turned this pub around. It is now a pleasant establishment serving good beer and excellent food. The yobs that used to spoil everyone’s enjoyment have now gone along with the pool tables and dart board. This makes for a much friendlier and more relaxed atmosphere.

I remember coming in here 3 or 4 years ago when this pub was thriving. It has gone down hill considerably since then. However, I have to say that with the present set up this pub has the potential to be even better than a few years ago. It has been refurbished inside and out, including the kitchen. Has a good choice of beer and staff who are pleasant and polite.

This sleeping giant of the pub world is back in business at last.
