Old Parr's Head, Islington
our final review

last rating:
Although it looks like a pub from the outside, with its Victorian tilework, once you enter the Old Parr's Head, it's clear that modernisation and restyling has turned this into something more akin to a lounge bar. There are low leather sofas, upmarket bar snacks (with prices to match) and an industrial-strength PA. It's not sophisticated, but then as a pub it never was, but the service is friendly and attentive and with its late licence is a handy place for a late night one without breaking the bank. venichka 15/5/2004 - previously rated: 3 pints. Although it looks like a pub from the outside, with its gold-painted tiles, once you enter the Old Parr's Head, it's clear that modernisation and restyling has turned this into something more akin to a lounge bar. There are low leather sofas, upmarket bar snacks (with prices to match), and also, it would appear, weekly comedy evenings and occasional open-mic acoustic sessions. There are some nice touches-apparently snacks are free early in the evening, and a decent selection of drinks. There are far worse places that try to create this kind of ambience nearby.
This is closed now and won't be coming back as a pub any time soon, as the building has been converted into a shop.
