An Essex Road institution, the Old Queens Head has been around roughly for ever. It's a pub with a decidedly split personality. By day it's a pleasant place to a have a lone pint or a chat with mates, by night, especially at weekends, things change - queues form outside (kids in skinny jeans, many impossibly good looking people) and bands or DJs play the upstairs room. They get some big acts in there and have played host to the Freestylers, the Rapture and Belle and Sebastian DJing of late. The upstairs room has recently had a refurb according to the excellent bar staff, one of whom was roped in to help the builders as a way of saving some cash on the job (we hope her boss appreciates her!). The decor is rather magnificent, with the mother of all fireplaces, a gothic alter behind the bar, antler chandeliers, and a bar that almost blinds you with it's choice of booze... unless, that is, you want an ale. They have none. And that's the thing, it's a bar/pub really. If you see it that way, you can appreciate it. View it as a pub and you might be annoyed by it. The food looked pretty good on our last visit, the Guinness was well kept, and the staff were great. Recommended.

I came here on Friday night with some friends and had a fantastic time. The staff were helpful and quick to serve us, despite it being a busy night. The decor of the place was really artistic which suited the Islington/Angel area we were in, and we all loved the atmosphere at the venue. Fantastic ambiance, fantastic drinks, fantastic night out! I'll be going back soon. Thank you Old Queen's Head!

The Sunday Social is well attended and super chilled.

I was moved to search out a review website and make a post as the staff here are courteous and enthusiastic. The food wasn't half bad either...

Cheers
