Fuller's have got much right with this station pub, which is a credit to the newly-unveiled extension to King's Cross. The design is spectacular, making use of original features but neatly looking to the future. An industrial, warehouse-like space, the pub is light and airy thanks to a massive glass atrium. There are countless nooks and crannies and views over the platforms. Classic Fuller's advertising neatly sets the scene for this pub's focus - two bars on different levels offer plenty of opportunity to sample Fuller's super cask beers in tiptop condition. The standard keg beer offer is boosted by reliable Czech lager Kozel. Of particular interest to beer geeks is the comprehensive range of Fuller's Vintage Ales (1999 is a steal at just £5.20 a bottle - rich, sherry-like and perfect for sharing), Brewer's Reserve and Past Masters beers. Service is unfailingly friendly, though some of the staff could be a little more up to speed with the bottled beer offer and more fridge space for these rare gems might avoid occasional disappointment if, like me, you were tempted to make a beeline for these brews. Nevertheless, the food was wholesome and priced for every pocket, the Pride was in fabulous nick and service came with a smile. The Betjeman Arms may not be up to its former glory, but it blazed a trail for decent station pubs in the capital. The Euston Tap and now The Parcel Yard have raised the bar further. A super choice for a pint.
