The Pembury Tavern - a grand looking pub in deepest Hackney - has been owned by the excellent Milton Brewery since 2006 (their second pub in London, after the soon-to-be-closed Oakdale Arms in Haringey). It's a real ale enthusiast's favourite with a great selection of Milton produce, plus ciders and continental beers on tap and in bottles. Inside, its a big space with lots of hard wood surfaces and could be described as slightly bland and rather too bright. Personal touches are appearing here and there though and beer mats festoon the walls from the guest ales that have featured in their worthwhile mini-festivals. Some soft furnishings or perhaps a few plants would be a nice addition perhaps, but its a small gripe. The clientele is a good mix of all age groups and the service is always top notch, with plenty of help to navigate the vast array of beer. Bar Billiards and pool are also good to see and the kitchen serves up some hearty pub grub - including large bags of home made pork scratchings for £1.50. Overall, the Pembury Tavern is an excellent pub for the area.
