Prince of Wales, Kennington
FancyaPint?'s review...
Cleaver Square is situated a beautifully preserved Victorian square which, in Kennington, stands out 'like a tarantula on a slice of angel cake' (thank you, Raymond Chandler). The Prince of Wales lives up to the location too. It's a relaxed Shepherd Neame pub with some good beer (Spitfire, Oranjeboom and others) to quench thirsts, a decent wine list, great service and excellent food. We've enjoyed a selection of their ciabattas on previous visits and the beef pie comes recommended; we suspect the other daily specials also make the grade, too. Saying that, while still one of the best pubs in Kennington a recent refurbishment has made us drop our rating slightly: the battleship grey isn't appropriate and the tables too modern for what should be a classic old style pub.
