The Alex, as the pub is known for short, is a homely and reasonably pleasant local that provides a valuable service for its clientele. It is, like the regulars, smart and slightly old-fashioned. The smaller public bar has sports TV, while the larger saloon bar, which is a soothing deep blue colour, was filled with gentle music, while the small stage suggested that the occasional live performance might be forthcoming. There are many prints depicting horse-racing on the walls, and the East End tradition of free bar snacks is dutifully adhered to.
