Public House, Highbury
FancyaPint?'s review...
Ironically, Public House isn’t a pub at all - it’s a cocktail bar. In addition, you won’t be able to get a pint in here. So what is it doing on Fancyapint, you may ask? Well, the drinks selection is very interesting. Despite specialising in spirit-based beverages, they don’t serve vodka or coca-cola here, the owners consider them too boring. They do however serve a fantastic range of drinks based on pretty much everything else.
Tucked away on a side street off the top end of Upper St, this venue had previously been an unsuccessful Japanese bar/restaurant. The interior could best be described as ‘shabby chic’ – a long narrow room kitted out with a range of styles of furniture and objects. It’s a good look overall and the lighting creates a nice ambiance, attracting a lively, mixed crowd.
In our experience the best way to enjoy this place is to grab a seat at the bar and ask the friendly bar staff to mix you up something a bit different. We don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
