A former Fancyapint Award winner, the Queen's Arms is tucked out of sight in a small mews not far from Hyde Park. The surrounding colleges explain the high student numbers, but that's not the whole story. It's also a good place to meet before going to see something at the Albert Hall and often shows the effects of major events like the Proms, spilling out into the hapless mews. Standards are still kept high making this a perennial favourite, including decent beer on the four hand pumps, a selection of Belgian beers, friendly staff and a reasonably priced (if slightly gastro) menu. And we're always pleased to see Sunday Roasts - advertised as available all day Sunday. A lively place, the harried staff even manage to stay pleasant after a long evening. It's less busy during the day and on weekends, which makes it a good spot to meet in Kensington, if a little off of the beaten track.

Under 3 years ago this used to be our local. It could get annoyingly rammed with music students fromt he nerby academy in the evenings, but the atmoshphere was generally pleasant. We were in the area on Saturday afternoon and thought we'd pop in for a quiet pint or two. My God but it has not just gone downhill, it has plummetted through the bowels of the earth. They now serve ALL drinks in plastic glasses. Why? "Because breakages happen." If you want to sample their gastro menu, you could pay £16 for a rib-eye steak with all the trimmings and it will be charmingly served on a small paper plate. It's as if they have made a deliberate effort to focus on grabbing as much money as they can in one go from unsuspecting tourists going there as a one-off whilst visiting the nearby Albert Hall. And all the wile treating them with complete distain. You clumsy cretins want real glasses and plates? How stupid do you think we are? You'll just break em! We know you won't be coming back again (who in their right mind would) so just take what we give you and then beat it. Urgh. Avoid like a plague of plague germs with swine 'flu...

A fine mews-pub that looks like what one would think a pub should look like. The food was not bad, nor was the selection on tap. The staff was pleasant and efficient. But, you have to like college students: it is their local. It's gotten so that I avoid the place.

The review is so far off the mark, it's not true. Went here after a great evening, only to have the evening ruined by the arrogant prick behind the bar. Rude, conceited, geek. He refused to set up a tab as he claimed it was too late. It was 10pm (not that that matters)!!! Due to his pathetic, childish manner, we left without finishing our drinks. As we did, another group were also leaving early due to the behaviour of the barman in question. The bloke's a moron. Sure this place could be great if only they got rid of him.
