Railway Tavern, Edmonton
FancyaPint?'s review...
Despite always thinking 'Market Tavern' would've been a better name, this shopping precinct/council estate pub is actually not as bad as its location would suggest. Sure, Edmonton Green shopping centre and the surrounding buildings aren't going to win any design awards and this is a typical-looking post-war town planner's idea of a community pub. Nonetheless, during the day and into the early evening, this is a lively, fun place with a mixed crowd of shoppers, shop owners, market traders and tipsy old men - it is indeed a pub for the community. We don't wholeheartedly advise coming here much after the shops close, however, as the ambience takes a turn for the worse with the crowd less mixed and the opening hours more erratic. Overall, a good place to rest your weary feet if you happen to be out shopping in Edmonton Green.
