The Rising Sun is a decidedly mixed bag, as we discovered on a visit one late Saturday afternoon in August. The exterior is neat and tidy with hanging baskets, which was promising. The interior is spacious, in a mock Tudor style (we suspect the building is in fact pretty old, certainly the ceiling and beams suggest so), but despite attractive appearances, the Rising Sun feels somewhat bland and unatmospheric. This may well be due to the fact that it was virtually empty inside on our visit, the spacious feeling of the place (and lack of music) accentuating this. However, the beer garden was also pretty much empty, save for a couple of families with young children which, given the lovely weather, was surprising. The screening of cricket on a large screen inside seemed to add to the soporific atmosphere. As for the beer, the selection was disappointingly unimaginative. This pub is superficially very attractive, and what's more, easily accessible from both Bromley and Croydon due to good bus links - but in truth, it could do a whole lot better. It's also never especially good for morale when you see notices about the banning for life of those caught in possession of drugs.

“I was recommended by a friend to check out their Sunday Carvery . for only £7.95 you get a delicious traditional Sunday roast dinner .. you get to choose roast turkey..roast beef..roast lamb..and roast pork plus you can help yourself to as much as you like from the fresh home cooked vegatables...the roast potatoes where yummy along with the coliflower cheese.mmmmmm and yorkshire pudding and lovely gravy.talk about good value!!!! .it certainly beats cooking at home on a sunday what a great treat for the wife to have a day off from the kitchen :-) the service was good and the pub has a great friendly atmosphere ( it has those lovely old fashioned big beams throughout like you get in the countryside ) ..they have a nice beer garden ... even got a cool blue pool table ..what a great find and will definitely be back for sure....soon :-)”

From Eden Park BR station, turn right and the pub is on the opposite side of the road after approximately half a mile. If coming by bus, take route 358 from the Bromley area, or the 194 from Croydon - the stop is right outside.
