Roebuck, Chiswick
FancyaPint?'s review...
Coming from the same people who run the well-received Queens Hotel in Crouch End, the Roebuck had a lot of expectations riding on it. However, not blessed with a listed interior like the Queens, the aspirations of this small chain can be seen more easily. In essence, this is a gastropub in look and execution. With an unfussy layout and muted colours its hard to distinguish the eating and drinking sections from each other, save for the presence of cutlery in the former. Putting it less nicely, the interior could be perceived as bland and predictable. There's a couple of ales on tap and the food is more than likely to be excellent, but drinking in a pseudo-restaurant doesn't exactly fill us with enthusiasm. The saving grace is the excellent large back garden which is no doubt a prominent draw here.
