This review is a good example of one that must be read in context. If you want a proper pint in a proper pub around here, you are not spoilt for choice. In this light the Albert is a godsend and a solid three pinter. On our last visit we walked in to an almighty fracas at the bar concerning Wetherspoon's business tactics which culminated in the landlord/manager kindly inviting a customer to go and drink there. There was talk of some thirty years in the trade from the landlord and those thirty years have clearly taught him that if it ain't broke, don't meddle - the formula here is old school. Locals chat about Palace scores in Palace tones and mix happily with the influx of creative types who make up the other half of the trade. It looks like a working man's club with the tables set out in rows on a carpet that induces a queasy feeling. Their Sunday roasts are a treat. School dinner style and all for £6.

Someone decided (the "old school" landlord?) to paint the wood panelling inside this pub lime green.

At a metaphorical stroke of the brush a lot of the charm of the place dissapeared.

Having walked down to Anerley Road, turn right and walk up the hill to the roundabout. Cross over the road and head down Anerley Hill - the pub is further down on your left.
