Royal Oak, Clapham Common
FancyaPint?'s review...
Having had a bit of a facelift since we were in last, Royal Oak, is still not as achingly trendy as some of the other bars on Clapham High Street , thankfully, it's a pretty comfortable and welcoming sort of place. There's decent beer on the two taps, tables out front on the main road and a more secluded garden at the back if you prefer your sunshine without the hydrocarbons. The staff are pleasant enough and genially took the piss out of us for being wet after the downpour that had escorted us to the pub. It feels much more like a proper pub than bar, which so many places in Clapham seem to have turned into. And while the nightly menu isn't traditional pub grub, leaning more toward gastro, we can't argue with the choices they've made. We're hoping to get back to this one soon - hopefully without the rain, so we can enjoy the garden. Of course, when the weather turns, that fire could be nice too...
