Royal Oak, Lambeth
There's not too many of these pubs around any more. On a small street just off Lambeth Walk (Oi!) and overlooking an attractive park is the Royal Oak. The sign outside declared it to be a Younger's pub, but we weren't too sure if this was up-to-date. Either way, the whole setting is pleasant enough to make it seem somewhere far more suburban than SE11, but this is very much a south London local's boozer. A group of older fellas were playing darts and others were chatting with the landlady; they all knew each other but the vibe was still welcoming. Lots of features to mention - jukebox, pool table, a back garden... but also an unfortunate and overpowering small of cheap disinfectant. The one missing feature, unsurprisingly, was a good drinks selection; averagely kept lager is the mainstay here. Sitting outside though, it's charming enough to elevate itself to a somewhat generous two pint rating.

How to find the Royal Oak pub
Lambeth North is the closest tube. Exit right out of the tube and walk to the large junction and cross over, onto Kennington Road. The second turning on the right is Fitzalan Street and the pub is halfway up, on the right.
