Savoy Tup, Strand
FancyaPint?'s review...
Lurking just off the Strand and just out of sight of most tourists is the Savoy Tup. It's typical of the Massive chain, with a few decent beers on the hand pumps, a modest wine list and the usual range of spirits. But if you're looking for food though, you'll be disappointed as they don't do it here. However you can bring your own food in to have with your pint, so it's not too much trouble to pop into the nearby Tesco for a pasty on your way here (the current refurb of the nearby Savoy rules out a more expensive takeaway option). What it lacks in the culinary department, it makes up for in the games arena with three tellies downstairs and pool and darts upstairs (the upstairs room can be hired). The pub's popular with people who work round here and at lunchtimes and early evenings it fairly buzzes. It's not a pub that'll feature in the annals of pub history, but it does the job pretty well for this area.

Decent enough pub for the area, and about the right amount of people in there on a Thursday night - not too quiet, but we got a table. However, I took a pint back for being off (sour enough to put on chips!). I was told - without the staff tasting the beer - that I just didn't like the pint. They were quite insistent on this, although the beer was taken off 20 minutes later. Would be a 3 or 4 pint rating, as the ale choice was original, but I don't much like being called a liar, which is a shame really.
