Located on the same road as William the Conqueror, the survival of this Saxon King defies both history and good taste. (Indeed, both pubs are perhaps among the finest adverts for republicanism I've seen for a long time.) It's not the worst zero pinter, but we really couldn't find any reason to award it a pint. There's no chance of any privacy in the one long, narrow, and very grey room, which smelled strongly of disinfectant on our visit. The sense that we were intruding was intensified by the loud and expletive-laden conversations of some regulars. There's a rather unkempt beer garden and we sensed a vague air of menace. Perhaps we are overreacting. Free bar food, in the East End tradition, is apparently provided on Sunday lunchtimes, and there's a fish stall (skate knobs a speciality) outside. But this is very much a place for regulars, with the atmosphere of a residents' association club, not that of a public house.

I have lived on the hill for quite some time and the "Sax K" is my local. Great little pub, Jane is a star. always got something going on at Bank Holidays. Bouncy castles for the kids, BBQ's etc. I sometimes feel sorry for her when she plans these days and nobody turns up or the weather won't behave, but it don't put her off organising another.

The regulars are a great bunch too. In fact if you wanted a house built from scratch there are enough trades that drink in there to build you a mansion.

So Sorry don't agree with the main review at all, besides the place has had a make over a few times since that picture was taken.

Lived on the hill for over ten years now and have to say the Sax K is the better of all the pubs on the hill. Jane is a diamond, Lays on enetertainment for the kids at Bank Holidays. Must cost her small fortune, and you have to feel sorry for her if the weather is bad or the customer count is low, but it never puts her off doing another.

A great little pub, good beer good bar food, the cheese selection on a Sunday is second to none. And if ever you wanted a house built from scratch there are enough trades that drink over there to build you a mansion.

So your review is so wholy inaccurate and unfair its untrue.

I have drank in this pub for a long time, the locals are approachable, the barstaff are nice too, the pub landlady is jane she is salt of the earth very rare in landladies and landlords these days. She is always booking new entertainment, and there is always something going on. They have karaoke, disco, live entertainment, bouncy castles. The people who reviewed this place are talking rubbish, they went there in 2002 i think, it's changed so much since then. The place is always clean, they welcome new customers, it is not clicky like most pubs on harold hill and the beer is very good too.

I moved to Harold Hill a year ago from a village in kent, tried out a couple of pubs in the area and found this one to be the best. Live music, comedians, karaoke are a selection of entertainments booked for most Fridays and Saturdays. Not the best layout for a pub but the locals are talkative if you make the effort and generally as you stated looks can be deceiving. Bouncy castle for the kids at weekends and fun day booked for bank holiday weekend.
