The Selkirk, Tooting
FancyaPint?'s review...
It's always a pleasure to report a pub doing well, and that's certainly the case with the Selkirk. Whilst many relaunched boozers these days spend their time choosing their vintage wallpaper, the Selkirk's just got on with being as good a pub as it can. It's certainly won over a wide range of SW18's residents, with its hearty pub grub and solid selection of drinks. What's most impressive about this one is how they manage to cover so many bases without losing that pub feel: live music, big screen TV and even bar billiards are on offer, but this one still does the job for a drink and a natter. It's also refreshing to find a pub with an air of independence to it: the management at this one not only go out of their way to try out special events (Burns Night, Games evenings, Elvis impersonators), they also lay on a discount for NHS staff (a cunning rouse given the proximity to St. George's Hospital). It was busy when we were last in, but the staff were coping pretty well and we got served almost immediately. The beer was pretty good too, with four different ales on the pumps, including a couple from Battersea's Sambrook Brewery. If you're looking for the best pub in Tooting, you should be looking here.
