Recent troubles have altered this pub - for the better in our opinion - and concerted effort on the part of the dedicated staff seems to have cleared out the unsavoury elements. And thankfully it's no longer painted a hideous shade of blue. It's still a strange mix of country pub and Victorian elements, including stained glass in the windows, a good-sized bar and a lovely clock integrated into the carved fire surround. There's darts and table football, but nothing on the taps to shout about beyond decent Guinness. Comedy nights and live music, tellies to watch the sport and a jukebox in the corner mean there's plenty to keep the punters entertained. There's pizzas if you feel peckish and the friendly staff are always ready to please. It's a far cry better than the Wetherspoon pub up the way, so give it a go.

This pub has now become the Crown so Fancyapint need to up the listing. It's had a complete refurb including moving the bar, and two huge TVs have been stuck on the walls dominating the pub with sports.

They clearly had a lot of potential with this place but I think they've gone wrong in a number of ways, firstly the pub is one big room so the TVs really dominate every space, and the pub always feels empty because most people sit at the bar and the sides and then all the tables in the middle are empty.

The line of blokes around the bar who are usually present also give the pub an unwelcoming atmosphere, and although it has an extensive and fairly cheap food menu it doesn't feel like a place you'd want to eat in.

I think they could have done a lot more with the opportunity they had to make this a great new addition to Leytonstone's high street, but instead it feels disappointing and the North Star, an O'Neills, the Wetherspoons and the Red Lion nearby all offer far more than this pub does. The Crown does have three ales on now, well kept, but that's no reason to go here given the other pubs (except O'Neill's of course) offer a wider selection.

In fact I don't think there is any reason to go to this pub, hopefully they'll change it again or it'll get taken over by someone else as it's a good spot and it would be good to have another top pub in the area.
