Sherlock Holmes, Strand
FancyaPint?'s review...
You have to be a bit of Sherlock Holmes to find this pub, as Baker Street is a good Hansom Cab's ride away from Northumberland Avenue. Nevertheless, the pub has plunged wholeheartedly into its chosen theme to please pub-going Conan Doyle fans with an entertaining divertissement. The walls are adorned with innumerable Holmesian memorabilia, there's the 221B restaurant upstairs and the TV shows non-stop Sherlock Holmes movies and TV programmes - the colour on the TV being turned down to render even the newest TV programme in nostalgic black and white. The news is pretty good on the beer front with the likes of Speckled Hen and the pub's own Sherlock Holmes bitter on the hand pumps with plenty of wine and pub grub (albeit a little pricey) to round off the victuals - all competently and pleasantly served. However, this pub's unique selling point appears to be of interest to only about half the clientele, as the other half are Civil Servants and other officerati from workplaces roundabout. There are few pubs in these parts and this is one of the better ones - an achievement even more impressive for a themed, tourist pub.

Went here on the back of reading some positive reviews and was really disappointed. Food was terrible and really expensive. When it finally arrived it was stone cold. To be fair we were eventually offered a 50% discount on the food we had ordered but only after repeatedly complaining to the aggressive manager. Would not recommend this pub under any circumstances.
