SimmonS, King's Cross
FancyaPint?'s review...
Judging by its exterior, once upon a time this one was an old-style Dining Room. We never knew it in that incarnation, but passing it over the years we wondered if the interior matched up to London's other Classic Cafes. We never thought we'd see it reopened, but this one's had a new lease of life of late, opening up as a café-by-day, bar-by-night. We've yet to sample it during the day, but judging by its nocturnal atmosphere this is one of the more individual refits we've seen of late. Over 100 different (empty) beer cans adorn the wall space, along with scores of table lamps. And whilst the interior is far from roomy, they've managed to sneak in a DJ booth and fit out the basement as well. As for beer fans, it's bottles only, but there's a far range of Low Countries choices to choose from. A late licence to 3am at weekends suggests this one might be worth looking at when the regular pubs close, but on the evidence of our visit, a trip here (slightly) earlier in the night is a worthwhile venture too. We'll be intrigued to see how this one fits into an area with an ever growing list of pubs and bars, especially given how much it differs from its nearby competition. A truly distinctive venture then - and forgive the capitalisation of the second 'S' in their name: it's in keeping with the flourish of the original sign writer.

Now that this place has been open for a few months it is definitely on our circuit of favourite places to go. We often drop in after work and end up staying quite late in to the evening (oops), and the other day we discovered that they have started having Mon-Fri happy hours from 7-9pm, just when the other bars around have stopped theirs. so I reckon we'll be having a few more long evenings to follow. Fridays they usually have DJs on with a good taste in classic funk and soul, so the atmosphere starts cooking quite early.
We are attempting to work away through every flavour of their fruit beers, but every time we get close they add new varieties. Mango and coconut last week (not together). Top destination, We love it!
