Late on a Sunday night this place can be a haven if you are just not prepared to let the weekend die. With a huge selection of bourbons and whisky, an excellent cocktail menu, and decent tap lager, there's something for everyone unless ale is your only tipple. A year or so ago, we were quite taken with the place. It feels more New York than Upper Street, and it has an excellent juke box with everything rock from Led Zep to the Smashing Pumpkins, but since word of the late license has gotten around, it has become a victim of its own success on a Friday and Saturday night when getting served is like trying to hurdle through treacle. On our last visit, having failed to catch the three vest-clad barman's attention with a polite head's up, followed by an arm waving, we were forced to walk to the end of the bar and ask the three staff moodily stabbing at a laptop if they would be so kind as to serve us. When the drinks are coming at the premium you might expect of a place like this, it'd be nice not to have to beg for one too. I've also been served two Heaven Hill bourbons in bloody shot glasses in here. That's not right. Having said this, it's a good bar - it's just certainly not a pub. Sunday nights here are great, and if you fancy drinking wedged in like a canned sardine pop along on a Friday or Saturday.

I'm sad about this place, as I've been a couple of times, and had some good nights. But on my last visit, we were subjected to some of the most obnoxious service I've ever encountered. On a quiet weekday night we were asked to leave because one of our party was wearing suit trousers, not the uniform rocker jeans apparently required. Well, that's OK (if a little pretentious in its own right)...but why inform us of this after we'd already been served and paid for our drinks? Not impressed. We were told we were 'allowed' to stay and finish our drinks but would have to leave afterwards. All the while, the hatchet faced woman behind the bar shot us daggers making it a thoroughly unpleasant, hostile experience. Shame on you!
