Sloe Bar, Waterloo
FancyaPint?'s review...
It would appear that a change in elevation is needed for station pubs to excel - maybe the stairs challenge the less sophisticated drinkers, who are we to say? This bar aims to be more elegant, with a good-sized wine list and lots of wood and leather spread around. The wine "cellars" in the middle of the bar look to be more for decoration than function, but they break up the space, keeping it from looking too cavernous. And yes, you can get a pint of just about whatever you fancy here, ranging from real ale to continental beers to the range of lagers that seem to becoming more prevalent these days, to a decent cappuccino or latte if you fancy something a bit lighter. It's a good place to meet people and was pretty full around commuter time when we were in last. Lots of people were eating, which can be a good sign - hopefully not because they had to. If you want a slightly more upmarket bar in a station, it's probably hard to beat this one, particularly if manage to bag a seat overlooking the streaming hordes on the station concourse.

Well, I found this place generally nice. A bar in a railway station is no restaurant in a high street, right? But the food was good, prices reasonable and people nice. Didn't see any rodents. Some say people start seeing white mice after having drunk some too much. A jug of Pimm's probably was not enough...

Dropped in last night as it was the most convenient place (there really is no other reason to go here).
Service was ok and there were seats available.
Oh and if you're a fan of rodents they've got a few mice running around the floor to keep you entertained. Some people didn't seem so keen to have them scurrying over their feet as they ate their pizza's though.
