Spread Eagle, Mayfair
FancyaPint?'s review...
For such a small road so close to Oxford Street, it is rather surprising to find there are two pubs opposite each other, with a nearby third only recently closed. It seems owners Spirit Group gave up on the Woodstock over the road to concentrate on giving the Spread Eagle a refurbishment familiar to those who have ever drunk in any of the chain's other establishments. That is, it does a pretty good job of looking like an old fashioned kind of pub. There is plenty of dark wood and a tiled floor around the bar, while the lighting is generally subdued. You'll find enough big brand ales to keep most people if not exactly happy, at least quiet, while the wine list isn't too bad either. Although many pubs in the area are filled with office workers and tourists, this one feels more transient and the rating suffers accordingly. Unlike some of the Sam Smiths pubs in the area, we can't see anyone being proud to call this their favourite afterwork pub. Not one we'll rush back to, it is still probably one of the better pubs with such proximity to Oxford Street.

How to find the Spread Eagle pub
Woodstock Street is the 4th turning on the left, if you were to exit Oxford Circus and walk along the south side of Oxford Street towards Marble Arch.
