The Star is a pleasantly old-fashioned boozer: a 1930ish two-room place ('saloon' and 'public bar' on the doors) which draws a good mix of locals. London Pride, Olde English cider and Courage Best are featured on tap, and the service is usually friendly. Should thirst master you in Plumstead, the Star is one of your best options. One grumble, though: the men's toilets are sometimes as noisome as the Jakes on Hungarian third-class trains - sort it out please, landlord.

How to find the Star Inn pub

On leaving Plumstead mainline station, turn right and right soon afterwards up Griffin Hill towards Plumstead Common. When you hit the Common, head right and you'll see the pub on the far side of the road. It's a fifteen minute walk in all.
