While we can't claim to have been fond of this place when it was open, we do love pubs, and even if somewhere seems pretty bad when we visit, we still hold on to the optimistic hope they can get better. But the Style and Winch has now closed, so all such hopes can be scattered to the wind, left to blow recklessly across the bleak marshes behind the tower blocks and vodka-bottle-stained bus stops of Northend Road, to which we will thus have no justifiable reason to return.

Slade Green: Leave the station by the Whitehall Lane/Howbury Lane exit, turning right down Whitehall Lane. At the end turn left down Bridge Road, then, at the end, turn right along Northend Road. You'll find the pub on your right after a few more minutes. Erith: Follow the signs from the station through the subways to Queens Road. Cross to the opposite side of that road, and follow it along as it becomes, first, South Road and then, Northend Road. You'll find the pub on your left soon enough.
