This one breaks the mould: a rather fine railway pub. That said, it's not actually within the station but right next door. The Surbiton Flyer has certain gastro features - solid wooden square tables, stained wooden floors and walls (we think beech) and the like - without being anything like a gastropub. They play music, for a start, albeit at a respectable level - Oasis greeted us as we walked in, which was a little out of keeping with the general atmosphere. There's a rather continental flavour to the place, helped in no small part by the impressive hams on show. Indeed, you can get a decent size glass of New World wine and a fair few slices for six quid or thereabouts. Other nice touches include stained glass skylights and a sign pointing to the "lavatories". It's a Fuller's, and the usual range of beers is available. Overall, this is a very pleasant place - well-kept, European feel, but not at all contrived. Recommended.
