Resplendent in its new livery, the ex-paddle steamer, the Tattersall Castle is a fitting tourist attraction for the area, located in an ideal spot almost opposite the London Eye and County Hall and close to Westminster. The refurbishment didn't end with coat of paint to the outside either, the interior has been extensively revised. Once you're off the deck, it looks more like a modern hotel bar (albeit with a curved floor and low ceilings) rather than the ex-British Rail rust-bucket it once was. The drink is also pretty much on par with an average modern hotel, there's nothing remarkable about it apart from the price - it's not cheap and the clientele is also pretty much the kind you'll find in a hotel too. It's a vast place with plenty of seats on the upper deck (when the weather's fine and dry) and there's a lot more space downstairs inside the boat. If you fancy a drink on the river, you might well give it a try, but don't expect to recreate a nautical experience - once you're inside you might as well be in a Portakabin on a barge, rather than a piece of British maritime history.
