Tea Clipper, Knightsbridge
FancyaPint?'s review...
Our last review of this place, a good few years ago now (sorry it's taken so long), dismissed the Tea Clipper as nothing more than a nautically-themed, theme pub. The intervening years have seen this pub mature into something that's a lot more authentic - and to the pub fan, much more palatable. It's a tourist pub that's grown up, There are decent, Cask Marque, ales on the hand pumps, a varied and much more interesting range of other beers on tap, an acceptable wine list and good, pub grub menu. The interior is a cosy-looking panelled affair and the service is fine. It may only be a couple of hundred metres from the ghastly, consumerist attraction that is Horrids - sorry, Harrods, but that doesn't mean the Tea Clipper does not make a good fist of being a proper local. There are usually a good few tourists in here, but the number of locals who live and work in the area and frequent this pub are testament to the Tea Clipper's viability and believability as a proper British pub. If you're a tourist, a local, a shopper, a pub-fanatic or merely thirsty, you'll be fine here. To the Tea Clipper we say, well done.

This pub has indeed improved in recent years but still needs to work on speed of service at busy times. It doesn't seem to take many people arriving at once for the staff to get a bit behind. Otherwise good enough within the context of a heavily touristed area, decent selection of beers usually, and the benches outside are a bonus on a sunny day.
