The Alexandra, Clapham Common
FancyaPint?'s review...
The Alexandra's not a bad place at all, it's a large pub with some rather eccentric (but appealing) décor. Outside it's an unpretentious Victorian pub, but inside it's crammed with various old pieces of farm kit, nautical items, shop tills, printing presses and ancient pub games - highly entertaining to look at or tinker with after you've had a few. The upstairs "Balcony Bar" sports big screens, for, er, sports and indeed the pub promotes sporting events up here and if your legs aren't up to it, there are loads of smaller screens downstairs too. Overall the clientele are mostly younger locals, but thankfully, you won't be assailed by the braying of the stereotypical Clapham dweller. Especially popular for big footy matches, it's a very welcome presence amongst the wine bars in this locale. Oh, and it does Thai food as well.
