It's been a while now since the posties' pub at Mount Pleasant got a gastro-style makeover, in attempt to move the place upmarket. By and large it succeeded, with the Apple Tree now largely being populated by media types - the creators of crap having taken over from the conveyors. But who can blame them? It's a pretty decent place, you can usually rely on Greene King to put on a decent range of drink and food, which they certainly do here (although one of the two hand pumps seems to be permanently dry nowadays). If you're not familiar with the pub, there's the usual range of mismatched chairs, tables, and settees, the odd chandelier, artwork on the walls and piped music (usually an eclectic but reasonable quality mix). The service is fast and friendly - it needs to be on a Thursday and Friday night when the place can get pretty packed. There are regular Country music sessions (alternate Sundays) and weekly poker nights to keep you entertained, should conversation be found wanting. A deservedly popular place, one wonders where the poor posties go to, now that even the old Penny Black is now a restaurant.

Absolutely awful

Staff with an attitude, serving the worst type of pub food, that looks and tastes like it has fallen out of a microwave, scorching hot, but no flavour.

Drinks overpriced, and not particularly good wine selection.

Complaints wise - don't bother, they offer you another version of the same meal, or say complain to Head Office.

If you're looking for a better experience, try the nearby THQ for wine and food, The Blue Lion or The Pakenham, they have a welcome that actually seems genuine.

Oh, and when I did complain to the Head Office, I received a fob off email - seems like the brewery aren't interested in customer service either
